New here? Tell us:
- Your instrument(s)
- How long you’ve been playing
- The thing you’re working on right now
- One practice habit you swear by
I’ll start on behalf of the team: we build Practis, we all play something (badly to decently), and the habit we swear by is the thirty-second practice note before closing the lid.
Piano, returned two years ago after a 20-year gap. Currently fighting the Fantaisie-Impromptu’s middle section like it owes me money. Habit: I write down the metronome number where things stayed clean, every session. Past me never remembered, present me doesn’t have to.
Jazz guitar, 8 years in. Working through Barry Harris voicings and trying to make my comping less… enthusiastic. Habit: record the last run-through of every session. 90% are embarrassing, the other 10% are why I keep doing it.
Violin, conservatory second year. Sibelius concerto first movement for a jury in October. Habit: scales before anything else, even on the bad days. Especially on the bad days.

Cello, four years, started at 41. Currently on the first Bach suite prelude like every other adult cellist on the planet. Habit: 25 minutes is a session. Telling myself that killed the all-or-nothing thing where no free evening meant no cello.
Mezzo-soprano. Working on Brahms’ Zigeunerlieder and trying to stop running out of air in the same two places. Habit: humming through new rep away from the piano before singing it properly. Saves my voice and my neighbours.
PianoTechSupport, I play the piano - occasionally also practice it, haha.
